How are poly bags made?
Material Selection:
Poly bags are commonly made from low-density polyethylene (LDPE) or high-density polyethylene (HDPE). These materials are chosen for their flexibility, durability, and affordability.
Resin Preparation: The selected polyethylene resin is melted down and mixed with various additives, such as colorants, stabilizers, and processing aids. These additives help enhance the properties of the final poly bag, such as its strength, clarity, and UV resistance.
Extrusion: The resin mixture is then fed into an extruder, which consists of a large heated screw encased in a barrel. The screw rotates, pushing the molten resin forward while melting it completely. The heat and pressure generated during this process ensure uniformity and consistency in the molten plastic.
Film Formation: The molten plastic exits the extruder through a die, which is a specially designed opening that shapes the plastic into a thin, continuous tube. The dimensions of the die determine the width and thickness of the poly bag.
Cooling and Shaping: As the plastic tube emerges from the die, it enters a cooling chamber where cool air or water is blown onto the tube. This rapid cooling solidifies the molten plastic, transforming it into a solid film.
Cutting and Sealing: The solid film tube is then passed through a series of rollers and blades that cut it into individual bags of the desired length. At the same time, heat is applied to seal the sides of the bags. The type of seal can vary, including options like flat seals, side seals, or bottom seals.
Finishing Touches: Additional processes may be employed to add features to the poly bags, such as adding handles, perforations, or printing custom designs, logos, or information.
Quality Control: Throughout the manufacturing process, quality control measures are taken to ensure the poly bags meet the required standards. This includes checking for defects, such as holes or weak seals, as well as verifying dimensions, thickness, and overall appearance.
